What are Up and Over Garage Doors?
An up and over garage door is constructed in a single panel that is counterbalanced by either a torsion or an extension springs.
The opening and closing movement is controlled by rollers that run in tracks, one to each side. The tracks are either fixed onto the frame so that the bottom of the garage door protrudes approximately one third in the open position (forming a Canopy) or the tracks run into the garage so that the garage door can retract,
The Canopy type mechanism is available in widths up to 8’ (2438mm) and heights up to 7’6 (2285mm). Much larger garage doors are available but with a retractable type mechanism. We do not recommend automation of garage doors fitted with the Canopy type mechanism.
Manual garage doors are fitted with a Euro profile lock and have 2 anti-tamper protected latches, with a further 2 latches available as a security upgrade.
These garage doors can be supplied without a handle for automatic operation.
Finishes include white and a large range of optional colour and wood effect finishes (most at additional cost), available with a matching or contrasting steel frame.
What are the Main Advantages of Up and Over Garage Doors?
1. This type of garage door is relatively simple to manufacture and to install and so tends to be less costly than other types of garage door.
2. They are available in standard imperial sizes and so are ready made to replace existing worn out garage doors.
3. Your new garage door is supplied fully finished requiring no overpainting.
What are the Main Disadvantages of Up and Over Garage Doors?
1. This type of garage door has no insulation. Indeed it can be draughty, particularly underneath the garage door.
2. Unlike other types of garage doors Up and Overs are manufactured in bulk in standard imperial sizes. Having one purpose made for best fit tends to be significantly more expensive.
3. Unlike other types there is a limited range of colours.
